i am both surprised and not surprised by all the attention given to weather.  entire newscasts can be devoted to weather…even weather that is pretty much appropriately seasonal.  snow and drifts and cold in december…seems appropriate…yet reason to issue all the cautions purportedly necessary to ensure we are both safe and informed.  in an age of mass communication…in an age of reality tv…in an age of amplification…anything is newsworthy…why not the weather.  oh, and a bit of ‘oh for crying out loud’…what’s with the wisconsin folks bellyaching the packers lost in chicago due to the weather.  i thought lambeau was the ‘frozen tundra’…and that was the hope of ‘home field advantage’ if the packers could have the best nfc record.  they lose in chicago due to the weather?  that makes as much sense as “officer i didn’t see the stoplight because i needed to finish dialing my cell phone”.  or as much sense as “we have to expect casualties in a war”.
