i can do anything better than you

these words from a song are the mainstay of any culture, except for perhaps trappist monks and those nuns affiliated with convents in which there is no talking.  i read a listing of the 23 top basketball draft picks during this history of the nba draft.  generally, i like reading sports news because the news is mostly about achievement and people succeeding (keeping in mind that i am fully aware that for every winner there is a loser).  the ratings story, while fascinating to check over lists to see what names i remembered from historical markers in my life…those markers being years…got me to thinking about how quickly the expectations of someone can just as quickly be reduced to a reason for near and/or full derision.  for a college…or high school…guy to be expected to be great in professional basketball and then rated as ‘the worst of the crop’ speaks mostly less to the guy and mostly more to those with the expectations.  generally thinking, i believe it is expectations that create most problems in human interactions.  i am no total fool…i know we must have expectations…expectations are part of our experience…our sense organs base awareness of new stimulation upon previous stimulation, which is the basis of expectation.  it is the judgment after the experience succeeding expectation that results in the problem that creates conflict…both within our selves and between ourselves.  i can do only one damned thing better than anyone else…and that is be me.  i welcome your expectations and expect your judgments forthwith
