know i don’t
sometimes i engage in discussions about topics to which i can readily admit i may have some amount of passion. in the workplace, these discussions can have the potential for a considerable degree of growth and creativity. however, if the group with which i am having the discussion finds it necessary to defer to my position, the result is frustratingly empty. while i can appreciate those folk who think it best to defer to my position…for crying out loud, i do the same thing…at the same time i find it problematic that by deferring to me it relegates me to the ‘know-it-all’, something i know i am not and a position that prevents me from learning and growing. if ‘permission’ is granted to venture an opinion even if in apparent opposition to me, then do me the favor of speaking your peace/piece and helping me be challenged and corrected. i learn well from what i bang up against. i am not a monster or a seer. i am an instrument of learning potential
