application
i’ve done my share of painting…mostly walls and windows and such. detail work has tended to be the challenge. having grown up under a father disinclined to tolerate anything related to a mess, trim painting has tended to be a pain and an experience prone to resulting in more messes. my oldest daughter wanted to paint her room a few years ago. having learned it is a good thing to let your kids do things for themselves, i gave her some paint and told her where to find my paint brushes. later, i found her doing the trim work with some of her art brushes. both my oldest daughter and my son are incredible artists. i admit being shocked, and delighted, that tools of their trade were cross-purpose. mostly i was shocked that i was shocked…she implemented a solution that was a significant problem for me. and she didn’t even think about it as a revelation. for her, it was simply applying paint. it reminds me of sending bass (guitar) strings to some people living in the mountains of el salvador, later to learn they didn’t need bass strings; they rigged the strings to use as brake cables for one of the community bicycles. i am interested in determining if language can be used in similar applications…along with burt’s bee’s wax…and my roland juno-6 analog keyboard
