sounds of silence
i had been a bit increasingly concerned the past few weeks with a new-found awareness that i tended not to talk with my youngest daughter. generally speaking, when not in situations involving work projects or taking the lead in social settings so as to limit questions of me, i tend to be less talkative. working on a project, particularly around the house…i can spend hours in the activity and not utter a word. while i cheer for my youngest daughter and encourage and say i love you and read a few books, i noticed a tendency for something more like parallel play. not that she minds…that i am aware of. but i noticed the pattern and developed some theories about reasons and outcomes. then along comes the next edition of ode magazine…and it is “the silence issue”…all about quiet and solitude and listening and being present. and in the silence of reading the articles i have been silently affirmed
