how we learn
i’ve tended to notice something about some folk…particularly those folk to tend to advertise being teachers (not in the professional way…seers perhaps). those who have learned a craft through their own trial/error seem most inclined to need to teach others rather than let those others learn through trial/error. these folk, for whatever reason, have been involved in such opportunities that they are not mentored as they go about learning…but they seem to insist on mentoring others. i might not really wish to be mentored…but if in a situation in which the purported learned one is also involved, i can pretty much count on that learned one pointing out what it is that i need to learn, or what i don’t know, rather than afford me the opportunity to learn from the experience itself. it’s almost as if these folk cannot allow others to learn what they learned except by them being the teacher. circumstance or context or, horror of horror consequence…these are not allowed as the learning tools…as the teachers. instead, they must teach. and i usually feel like i’m not learning good enough for them…and not feeling fulfilled in the learning.
